Wedding Planning Tips: 3 Months Before the Wedding

With only three months left until the big day, it's time to focus on the finer details that will make your wedding truly special. From choosing wedding rings to meeting with key vendors, we've got you covered in this essential 3-month wedding checklist.

You’re probably wondering where the time has gone. You've blinked and gone from newly engaged to seasoned wedding planners…how did that happen?! If you’ve been following our wedding planning blog series so far (see 12 months and 6 months before the wedding here), then fingers crossed you’re already on track.

If you missed or need to catch up on the instalments of our wedding planning series, you can do so here… Wedding Planning Tips: 12 Months Before the Wedding Wedding Planning Tips: 6 Months Before the Wedding Wedding Planning Tips: 1 Month Before the Wedding

The final three months are an integral time in your wedding planning process. You've done the big stuff like finding a venue and securing vendors, but now it’s time to turn your focus to the logistical details and little things that will make your wedding truly yours.

Wedding dress alterations

If you've bagged the dress of your dreams, but it doesn't fit perfectly, you're not alone! Scheduling your first fitting now allows plenty of time for any major alterations to your wedding attire, whilst your final dress fitting will iron out any last-minute issues with your wedding dress a few weeks before the big day.

Select wedding music

If you haven’t already confirmed musicians and/or a DJ for your wedding celebrations, it’s time to get them booked in! But what will they play? Start thinking about the song you want to walk down the aisle to, if you’re having any music during your drinks reception, and most importantly…what song will soundtrack your first dance? Most good wedding bands will play at least one song of your choice, so don’t be afraid to be obscure!

Send invitations

The time and location of your wedding celebrations will determine the best time to send out your wedding invitations. However, if you've already sent save-the-dates, then somewhere around the three-month mark is perfect. This gives your guests enough time to RSVP (and for you to follow up on the slow replies!), it also means they can make travel arrangements, book accommodation, and arrange child or dog care, if needed, in good time too.

Digital wedding invitations, available to send through your bespoke Say I do wedding website, are easy, more affordable, and kinder to the environment than traditional physical invitations. But if you do decide to go down that route, you will need to start the process sooner so that you have time to go through the design process and get them in the post!

Discuss the wedding ceremony readings

It's time to really start honing your ceremony details and making it your own. It’s always a lovely touch to have a couple of close friends or family members recite a poem or reading during your wedding ceremony. Whether you have something already in mind or whether you’d like them to choose one to suit you as newlyweds, now is the perfect time to pose the question.

Schedule a hair and makeup trial

Booking your hair stylist and makeup artist for a trial at some point over the next two months will give you plenty of time to get your look just right. If you schedule it for a day when you have another event, you can also see how well it lasts. If you're planning to DIY your makeup rather than hire professionals, then it's time to choose your kit and get practising!

Go for a menu tasting

Another highlight of planning a wedding – the menu tasting session! Caterers will often ask you to select a couple of dishes per course that you’d like to try before confirming your final menus for the rehearsal dinner and the big day. Why not make a day of it and invite your parents or a couple of wedding party members along too? This is a lovely way to include them in your wedding planning journey, and also a brilliant opportunity to get their honest opinion.

Write your vows/speech

Writing your vows isn’t a process that happens overnight, and if you take one thing away from this article, don’t leave it until the night before! At this 3-month mark, start thinking about what you might like to include. Keep the task at the forefront of your mind and try to make notes whenever inspiration strikes. Naturally, you may have some legal vows to follow, but it’s your personalised vows and speeches which will capture the essence of your unique relationship and the commitment you’re making to each other for the future.

Meet with your celebrant

Whether you have an in-person meeting at your wedding venue or a Teams meeting if you're having a destination wedding, now is a good time to meet with your celebrant to double-check that you're all on the same page about the tone of your ceremony. If you're struggling, they can also give you a few pointers on how to write vows that are meaningful to you both.

Start planning any DIY projects for the wedding décor

You really don’t have to buy everything new or bring in wedding vendors for everything - DIY projects are a great way to stick to your wedding budget, and they can be FUN! Channel your inner DIY enthusiast and use Pinterest for inspiration on unique table plan ideas, photo walls, bunting, and more. Alternatively, if you have some talented and creative individuals in your bridal party who could help, rope them in to assist!

The countdown to your wedding date is now in full swing, but take each day as it comes and remember to stay on track by checking in with a wedding planning checklist.
