PROVENÇAL MARKETS From Château de Tourreau you can immerse yourself in sampling the riches of the region by visiting picturesque Provençal markets. Provence is well-known for its seasonal food and wine. Chefs from over the world travel all the way the Provence to select the best ingredients. Furthermore, you can find lots of beautiful flowers, antiques, and other local products. In Avignon, the indoor food stalls market takes place every morning except Monday mornings. Just 5 minutes across the bridge from Avignon, in Villeneuve des Avignon, the beautiful open-air market takes place on Saturday mornings. We love this market (beautiful art, antiques, crystal...) and highly recommend taking a walk around the charming village too! In nearby Carpentras, the market takes place on Fridays from 8 am until 12:30 pm. FRENCH VILLAGES With a prime location in the heart of Provence, situated between Oranges, Carpentras and Avignon, Château de Tourreau is perfectly placed for visiting some of Frances most memorable and charming villages. To see all the highlights and get started planning any day trips, see the websites linked below. The beautiful French Riviera is also only a one-hour drive south. EXCEPTIONAL ART A number of famous French artists were based in the region of Provence, such as Cézanne, whose studio can be visited in Aix-en-Provence, and Van Gogh, who is still associated with Arles and Saint Rémy de Provence. But the real art MVP is the entire Village of Les Baux de Provence: This is one of the most beautiful historic sites in France. Perched on a rocky outcrop, the village commands stunning views of the vineyards and olive groves below, with the sea in the distance. The fort dates from the 10th century. Nearby are some caverns which have been turned into an exhibition space, with art projected onto the massive walls. Called the Carrieres de Provence, the subjects range from the great artists of the Renaissance with works by Leonardo de Vinci, Michelangelo and Raphael and many more. It is worth driving to Les Baux de Provence via the charming town of Saint Rémy de Provence, and perhaps also visiting the Archaeological Site of Glanum. Dating back from 6th BC to 2nd century AD, this town is a discovery of ancient roads, religious, and civil monuments. OUI OUI, THE FRENCH LOVE SHOPPING Nearby L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue is famous for its many antique stores and markets, Saint Rémy de Provence for beautiful traditional Provençal porcelain, glassware and basketwork and, of course, Aix-en-Provence for its numerous high-end boutiques.
