6 Reasons Why a Weekday Wedding Might be Right for You

4 min read

One of the top results in Google when you search ‘weekday wedding’ is, ‘is it ok to have a wedding on a weekday?’. With the answer being, ‘there are some major benefits to having a weekday wedding’. They’re not wrong! While they may not be for everyone, hosting your wedding on a day other than Saturday is seriously worth considering.

Traditionally, weekends have always been the most popular days for weddings but there’s a growing trend of couples getting married during the week. This just goes to show that they are much more popular than they were a decade or so ago. Despite what many people assume, it’s not just because they’re cheaper (though frequently they are!). Here are six reasons why a weekday wedding might be right for you…

1. Availability

In short, you can get married sooner! Most popular venues book up at least one but probably two years in advance. You’ll find venues’ availability to be much more flexible during the week. Plus you don’t have to worry about clashing dates with other people, AND if you wanted to you could get married sooner than initially thought.

2. Wedding Suppliers

Just as venues get booked up early, so do wedding suppliers. If you have your heart set on a particular fine art wedding photographer, or awesome brass band, they are much more likely to have your midweek wedding date available. Just because you’re getting married in the week doesn’t mean you can’t curate your ultimate dream team of wedding suppliers!

3. Budget

As previously mentioned there could be some pretty big financial benefits when choosing to get married on a weekday. Most venues offer a discount or bespoke package which may only be available during the week. Opting for midweek won’t just be kinder on your budget, your guests can often save money on their travel and accommodation if booked outside of peak times. Win win for everyone!

Top tip: if you are looking to get married within a year of getting engaged, keep your eyes peeled for late availability discounts and offers.

4. Your Guests

One of the biggest concerns for couples considering a weekday wedding is that their loved ones won’t be able to attend. While this is a possibility, rest assured that the people most important to you will do their best to make it happen. To make it easier for them it’s worth considering factors such as school holidays or choosing a day such as a Friday or Monday which can easily merge into a long weekend.

5. A Relaxed Atmosphere

Hosting your wedding in the week could result in lower guest numbers, which might be no bad thing depending on how you look at it! Plus having a wedding during the week naturally gives the occasion a bit more of a relaxed vibe – perfect for a laidback and intimate celebration without some of the added fuss of a weekend do.

6. Extended Hire Period

As well as knocking a bit of money off the cost of the venue hire, some wedding venues may have the option to extend their hire period, meaning you could spread the celebrations out over several days. If you can, why not go all out and host a BBQ or cocktail evening on the night before your wedding? Or task someone with organising a brunch and a walk on the day after? It’s no secret that a wedding day flies by so by embracing a longer celebration it just means you get to spend more quality time with all your favourite people! Regardless of whether you choose a weekday or weekend, there are lots of things to consider and weigh up before you take the plunge. But you can be safe in the knowledge that midweek weddings are definitely a thing and a super popular one at that!
