5 reasons to consider a weekday wedding

4 min read

When it comes to planning your dream wedding day, as well as deciding on the time of year and month to get married you will also need to consider which day to get wed on too. For many there may not be a compromise, a Saturday is the only day of the week that they’ll be willing to hold their wedding on. This goes a long way to explain why popular wedding venues get booked up so far in advance!

Weekday weddings have grown in popularity over the last few years with couples happy to compromise if they’re able to secure their number one venue and extended wedding team, whilst also being able to save some money along the way. If you’re considering a weekday wedding, or even if you haven’t yet, keep reading for 5 reasons why it could be a brilliant option for you.

1. Affordability

Monday – Thursday, often described as midweek or weekday days are considered ‘off-peak’ in the wedding industry. They might even fall into the same category / hire cost as a Saturday wedding in winter. Because of this it’s highly likely that you’re going to be able to save money on the venue hire, and potentially other wedding suppliers too.

2. Availability

As we’ve mentioned, peak wedding dates nearly always get snapped up first, and highly likely way in advance too. The same goes for popular wedding suppliers such as planners, caterers, photographers and florists. Every couple will have a unique set of priorities when it comes to their wedding but if you have specific wedding vendors in mind the odds of being able to book them on a weekday grow significantly.

3. A relaxed, intimate atmosphere

Some couples may initially be put off hosting their wedding on a weekday due to the fact that their guests will have to take time off work. While this is of course a factor, remember that your key, A-list guests will always be there, no matter what! Some guests might find it challenging to take time off work or arrange childcare, which could result in smaller guest numbers. Don’t be disheartened by this though, an intimate wedding often creates a naturally more relaxed atmosphere.

4. Quality time with your guests

Following on from the above, if you do end up with a smaller guest list this would mean that you have the opportunity to spend significant time with those that are present. It’s a challenge getting round every single guest at a larger wedding, thanking them all etc. But by limiting your numbers you can spend quality time with each person and have a much more engaging, meaningful conversation.

5. Less likely to clash with another wedding

During peak season there are only a small amount of weekend wedding dates available. Hands up who has been invited to two weddings on the same Saturday? Us too! By switching to a weekday wedding your wedding is less likely to clash with anyone else’s therefore not putting your guests in a position where they must choose between your big day and another.

It all comes down to your own personal situation, your budget, your timeline and of course your priorities. Some weddings lend themselves perfectly to a weekday wedding. Weddings with a non-peak ceremony time could be the perfect solution for older couples or those getting married for a second time. And if you’re planning a destination wedding (lucky you!) your guests will be having to take time off work anyway, airfare is cheaper midweek and as we touched on earlier you might have greater flexibility when it comes to your venue and vendors on a weekday, especially during popular seasons.
