Cavtat Tips and Accommodation Information
We will be staying in Hotel Croatia for the duration of the wedding celebrations. This hotel is exceptional however pricewise we can understand this may not be feasible for everyone. Before we give you some additional accommodation options, here is some information and tips about the hotel itself and the area of Cavtat. ABOUT HOTEL CROATIA CAVTAT Hotel Croatia located a mere 17.4 km to Dubrovnik, is situated in the picturesque town of Cavtat (pronounced Savtat) and lies South of the Adriatic Sea. The hotel has many amenities such as an indoor and outdoor saltwater pool, a spa, restaurants and various areas of the hotel are used for those looking to soak up the sun, including the pool area and further down close to the promenade, the hotel also has its own designated area for guests to lounge. The hotel offers a buffet breakfast every morning which is included in all bookings. You also have the option to choose half board, but we recommend choosing just bed and breakfast. Personally, we enjoy going out in the evenings and choosing a restaurant in the town. DINING AT HOTEL CROATIA The hotel itself offers Spinaker Restaurant and Steakhouse restaurants to dine at. We would recommend you avoid eating at the pool as the food can be hit and miss. While the hotel and the food is exceptional people have advised us to avoid the pool food so we just want you to be aware of the same. Do go down the town for lunch if you can and get some respite from the sun. PECO bakery is cheap and cheerful for a ham and cheese pastry and a beer/glass of wine but all restaurants have lunchtime offers. The buffet breakfast is exceptional however if you want fresh/hot food such as pancakes, rashers, sausages get down early or about 9am, its busy and they have to keep making fresh to keep up with demand :) This has been the same in every large hotel we've been to so just a tip. Apart from this I am telling you, you will LOVE the hotel. ADDITIONAL TIPS WHEN BOOKING Be sure to also use the sauna, steam room as it's free to all guests but its not for the faint hearted, its HOT :) If you are booking a sea view room make sure you are higher than the 6th floor to get the most unrestricted view (there's 10 floors!). Just tell the hotel you are part of the wedding, I will have them warned in advance :) TRAVELLING TO HOTEL CROATIA The closest airport is Dubrovnik, which is 5 km from Hotel Croatia. Main way to reach the hotel from the airport is taxi which costs approx. €20 however try Uber as well as you may get it a little cheaper. TRAVELLING TO CAVTAT FROM HOTEL CROATIA Hotel Croatia Cavtat is within 1 km from the centre of Cavtat. The fastest way to reach the town is heading out the front doors of the hotel and walking down the driveway where you will see a sign for Cavtat town on your left. There is ALOT of steps. It isn't so bad going down but coming up I would not recommend. Unless you want to get your steps in, if so, this is a must :) There are courtesy golf cars that pull up at the lobby door of the hotel and take you down where you are within walking distance to the main promenade. We want you to know Cavtat, is not the busiest place, but this is why we love it. If you want busy, Dubrovnik would be the place to stay but I warn you, its extremely busy and quite expensive. Cavtat, is far more relaxed but still so close. Since we were here last in 2016 it has become quite popular. Cavtat has the most amazing charm and vibe its hard not to love it! We can't wait for you all to see it. DINING RECOMMENDATIONS IN CAVTAT The town itself has lovely little restaurants, so do try get out in the evenings to eat if you can. Our favourites include: Beach Bar Banac: We (Laura) recommend getting a cold beer/aperol spritz from Beach bar Banac which is on your left as you walk towards the town and also has upbeat music playing :) Posejdon: which is on your left as you get close to the town when walking from Hotel Croatia side. They have deep fried calamari and a good selection of foods for a reasonable price. Zino Restaurant: By the yachts has the best pizza and sweet chili chicken/prawns Restaurant Dalmacija: on our first trip to Cavtat we ate here the 7 nights! Just has a good selection and the best cherry liqueur at the end of your meal :) Eve lounge bar and beach bar: cool are a little further away (walking distance) and have the best views of the sunset. There are also a couple of highly recommend restaurants down this way too. There are a lot of restaurants, so just ask us if you want any other recommendations. TRAVELLING TO DUBROVNIK FROM CAVTAT BUS: Dubrovnik can be accessed by bus. Bus station is at the back of the main street and you can get the number 10 bus that is a regular connection between Cavtat and Dubrovnik. This trip takes about 40 minutes, and there are buses every hour from 5 am till midnight in winter time and during the summer season the bus connection is more frequent, in mornings every half an hour and the last bus leaves Dubrovnik at 1:30am. BOAT: You can also access Dubrovnik by boat. Adriana Boat Tours has a regular boat service that connects Cavtat to Dubrovnik with stops at Plat, Mlini, Srebreno in Župa Riviera along the way. The water taxis moor directly in the Dubrovnik’s Old city port. There are one-way and return fares available from any of the stops connected by the line as well as on the promenade in Cavtat you will find people selling tickets. Our advice if you are visiting Dubrovnik is to go early. Try and avoid the days when the cruise ships dock as it can get quite busy. Stroll around, get an ice cream, get a drink, some food, do a tour and definitely get the cable car to the top for the best views. This can be done with kids too and they would love the little train. Admire the best parts of the Ljuta village. If it’s more the wine you are after this is an absolute must when visiting Cavtat. Spend a half day on one of Michael's tours of Konavle with wine tasting and lunch. You can get tickets at his stall down by the promenade. There is so much more to do and see in this beautiful part of the world. From exploring the three islands (although we found this a very long day) to visiting Montenegro, Bosnia, the list is endless. These tips are to make your stay more comfortable and relaxed :) OR You can simply lie by the pool and do nothing while you are here or sit down by the water with a cold drink and watch the world go by.
