Our Love Story
Maddie and Josh’s story began in the most unexpected of times—during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Maddie was living her dream, travelling across Australia, when she received the call no one wanted: her mum, Debbie, wanted her home. Sixteen hours on a bus and a 24-hour flight later, she landed at Heathrow, unaware that fate had just set her on a path to meet the love of her life.
Back in the UK and mid-lockdown, Maddie’s phone rang. To her surprise, she was being called back to work at Wagamama—a job she thought she’d left behind. As luck would have it, her manager had never processed her resignation.
Meanwhile, Josh was navigating the highs and lows of university life—experiencing a different kind of snakebite. With three part-time jobs behind him and no income in sight, he quickly applied for work. He landed a temporary role at Morrisons, just a stone’s throw from Wagamama, and signed up for food delivery apps to keep busy in the evenings with his friend Marcus.
Over the following weeks, Josh became a regular at Wagamama, drawn in by the deliveries—or perhaps something more. It was there, next to the bins (yes, really), that he first laid eyes on Maddie. For both, it was love at first sight. Maddie, ever the bold one, struck up the first conversation, complimenting his mask-wearing diligence. Clearly, she had a soft spot for a man in uniform.
That very night, Josh went home and told his mum, “I think I met my wife today.”
Little did he know—he truly had.
