A Destination Wedding with a Plot Twist Picture this: Los Cabos, Mexico, 2017. A sun-soaked wedding, a whirlwind of celebrations, and two people who had no intention of finding love. Anthony, the best man, was ready for a week of partying, and Tessa, well… she wasn’t even supposed to be there. She’d tagged along as a friend’s plus-one, almost missing the trip thanks to a last-minute hospital visit. Little did she know, this unplanned getaway would be the start of something magical. Now, Anthony wasn’t exactly flying under the radar. With his effortless charm he was the kind of guy you noticed. And Tessa? Let’s just say she did a double take at the airport. Anthony, on the other hand, took one look at Tessa and thought, Wow. They were both fresh out of long-term relationships, looking for nothing but sunshine, cocktails, and maybe a little adventure. Fate, however, had other plans. Surviving a Wedding That Could’ve Been a Hangover Sequel The wedding week was chaos—the kind that deserves its own Netflix special. One fateful day, as they explored downtown Cabo, Anthony noticed Tessa’s longing for a Shaken Espresso from Starbucks. Determined to impress, he confidently asked a local for the nearest Starbucks in Italian, the local understood and Anthony led the way, with Tessa and the guys following behind. But somewhere along the way, temptation struck. The group stumbled upon a Häagen-Dazs ice cream shop, and, without hesitation, Anthony and the boys made a sudden detour. One by one, they indulged in scoops of creamy deliciousness, leaving Tessa waiting for her caffeine fix. Only after the guys had their ice cream in hand did they finally resume their mission and deliver Tessa her much-needed Starbucks. It may not have been the most direct route, but in that moment, she knew Anthony was someone who could make her laugh—and that was worth the wait. The Leap (Literally) of a Lifetime If there was a single moment that sealed the deal, it was the infamous catamaran ride. As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a golden glow over the water, someone had the brilliant idea to jump off the back of the boat into the Pacific Ocean. Anthony, ever the skeptic, assumed Tessa would back out. What he didn’t know was this girl had spent her summers on the water on her Father's boat and wasn’t about to be outdone. Without hesitation, she took the plunge, leaving Anthony no choice but to follow. (Note: Although this is Mexico, the Pacific Ocean is very, very cold. No regrets, though.) From Campfires to Forever Back in Burnaby, what started as a flirtatious friendship blossomed into something deeper. Camping trips, boat rides through the Gulf Islands, and family introductions turned their connection into an undeniable love. By 2020, they had moved in together, turning their house into a home filled with laughter, adventure, and the occasional coffee-fueled debate. Then, in 2022, Anthony upped the romance factor. He chose Brandywine Falls as the setting for a grand gesture. With the sound of cascading water and a heart full of love, he got down on one knee. Tessa’s response? A resounding YES!
