The Long Way Home
Our story starts in high school - not as high school sweethearts, but with Rio helping Sabrina survive grade 10 math. After Humberside grad in 2013, life took us in different directions for more than a decade until our best friend's birthday party brought us back into the same room. At the party, we stood at the bar to order drinks and did not stop talking or standing until last call. This marked the beginning of our "first date", which lasted a full week and was quickly followed by our first trip together to Mexico a couple weeks thereafter. Our career and academic ambitions initially kept us out of the same city for years - with Sabrina moving from Ottawa, to Toronto, to New York, and back again to Ottawa, while Rio went from Toronto, to London, and back again to Toronto. The distance made us experts in patience, furniture packing, and trip planning, with adventures across Vancouver and the Island, Brooklyn and Manhattan, Cancun and Cozumel, Italy and France, and Alberta's rocky mountains - where Rio proposed in 2024. In 2026, we finally closed the distance and moved into our first place together, at home in Toronto. Now, we cannot wait to mark the official beginning of forever by saying "I do" in front of our closest family and friends.
Wedding Party
Meet the family and friends who will be by our side on our special day.
Katherine
Sabrina's Maid of Honour and rock since kindergarten, with whom she shares decades of memories, stunts and secrets best left off this website
Caroline
Sabrina's fiercely loyal friend from Ottawa with a massive heart and unparalleled twerking abilities
Misha
Rio's kind and caring only sibling and Sabrina's soon-to-be sister-in-law
Courtney
Sabrina's UK-based childhood friend with whom she shares an increasingly strong bond despite the distance
Joanna
Sabrina's first real friend in Ottawa who loves an adventure, inspires her to be both spontaneous and responsible, and will co-emcee the reception
Kim-Eden
Sabrina's down-to-earth cousin who has been her de facto sister throughout life, as both are only children
Dr. Max Strauss
Rio's high school friend who has recently completed his MD, with dreams of paying for this wedding in the near future
Taylor
Rio’s high school friend. A dance floor anchor who dreams of solitary farming and knows way too much about deep space for someone with no rhythm
Janith
Rio's high school friend, whose true passion is getting schooled on the basketball court
Matt
University friend, former Toronto roommate, and the newest dad in the crew. He has been preparing for a long night of drinking at our wedding by logging sleepless nights with his kid
Scott
Rio’s college roommate turned co-Master of Ceremonies. He’s got the mic, the schedule, and a treasure trove of embarrassing memories he's promised not to share on the big night
Brock
Rio’s university friend and former roommate, often referred to as "Google", because he reads the entire board game rulebook beforehand, only to selectively reference rules that ensure his own victory
Calvin
Rio’s university friend and former roommate. Calvin loves a good fedora
