Where is best for us to stay?
A great question - the answer depends on your personal preference!
🏛️ Town: Teramo. Matteo's hometown, with bustling bars restauraunts and cafe's, pretty boutiques, and even Roman ruins
🏖️Beach: If you prefer the seaside, we recommend Alba Adriatica. It has many lovely bars often with live music outside them at night, great restaurants and awesome gelato.
🌿 Countryside: Abruzzo has cities, beaches, and even mountains- if the Italian countryside is more your style, let us know and we can help to suggest many little rural towns.
Can you recommend any local food for us to try?
You’re in Italy… eating is basically mandatory, but make sure you try some Abrusseze local dishes
🍽️ Pasta & Savory dishes :
- Maccheroni alla chitarra: Traditional egg pasta made with a “chitarra,”-a guitar-like instrument with wires, giving it a unique square shape- served with tomato sauce, lamb, or seafood)
-fresh potato gnocchi
-Arrosticini (grilled lamb skewers) are iconic. (Make sure you don't call it a kebab, or Matteo gets angry!)
-Porchetta Abruzzese – Herb-stuffed slow-roasted pork, crispy outside, tender inside.
-Timballo – a bit like lasagne, but made with pancakes instead of pasta sheets. The result is a melt-in-the-mouth to-die-for dish, of which Stanley Tucci is a fan!
Pallotte cacio e ov': A dish of fried cheese and egg "meatballs".
Scrippelle \'mbusse: A warming broth made with scrippelle (thin pancakes).
- Don’t forget to try fried cheese, and stuffed fried olives.
🧀Cheese
Pecorino d’Abruzzo – Aged sheep’s milk cheese, perfect with honey or bread.
Where: Cheese shops, agriturismi, or as an appetizer in most local restaurants.
☕Breakfast: Italian Breakfast is sweet and quick, with an espresso or cappuccino.
Cornetto/ Zappola/ Maritoza - you’re not often very far from a delicious, filled croissant (cornetto) or a delicious sweet pastry.
🍷Wine & Drinks
Montepulciano d’Abruzzo – Full-bodied red wine, perfect with meat dishes.
Where: Vineyards near Teramo, Atri, and the Abruzzo hills; served in most restaurants.
Trebbiano d’Abruzzo – Crisp white wine, great with seafood.
Where: Local vineyards and coastal restaurants.
Genziana (a digestif)
A bitter, amber-colored liqueur made from the roots of the Gentiana lutea plant, traditionally used as a digestive aid.
What is the dress code?
