Our Love Story
Our journey started with a song—literally. Back in August 2016, Emily and I both happened to join the same group song on the karaoke app Smule. For those who don’t know, group songs on Smule let singers join in with their own parts, but you don’t always see who else is recording until after it’s done. In our case, we both jumped in at the exact same time without realizing it. When we watched the final video playback, there we were—singing together in perfect harmony... right before a random lady jumped in with horrible pitch and completely ruined the song. 😂 Emily commented something like, “You weren’t there when I joined… were we singing at the same time?” I replied, “It must be destiny.” That moment sparked something special. I sent Emily my number in a Smule message (even though I had no idea how to use WhatsApp), and she messaged me the next day. We started talking every day—me in the U.S., working as a respiratory therapist, and her in England. In July of that year, I flew to the UK to meet her in person for the first time. That one-month visit was all it took. When I got home, I sold everything I owned and moved to England in September. We lived there together for two years before packing up our entire life—each of us with just a backpack—and moving to Canada with our family to start fresh. Over the years, we always dreamed of getting married, but life had other plans. Jessie needed brain surgery. The pandemic hit. Then Emily lost both of her parents unexpectedly. And now, after nearly a decade of love, adventure, and overcoming so much together—we’re finally getting married. Join us on August 8, 2026, under the magic of the Lionsgate Portal, as we say “I do” at the Calgary Zoo. The Lions Gate Portal—a powerful spiritual date that symbolizes awakening, abundance, and alignment. It’s when the Sun in Leo aligns with the star Sirius, opening an energetic gateway for manifestation. For two people who’ve always believed in divine timing and creating our own reality, there was no more perfect day to seal our love under the stars.

What will the weather be like?
August is one of the best months to visit Calgary! Expect warm, sunny days and cool, refreshing evenings—perfect for an outdoor celebration. Daytime temperatures usually range between 22–24 °C (72–75 °F) Evenings cool down to around 9–10 °C (49–50 °F) There’s plenty of sunshine, with about 10–11 hours of sun per day While mostly dry, Calgary can be a bit unpredictable—there’s a chance of light rain, so packing a light jacket and an umbrella is a good idea Gentle breezes and beautiful skies make August ideal for exploring or relaxing outdoors All in all, it’s the perfect mix of summer warmth and evening chill—just how we like it!
Where should I park?
Parking is available on-site at the Calgary Zoo, primarily in the North Lot near the main entrance. Cost: Parking is $13 per day Payment: Pay stations are located throughout the lot and accept credit/debit Location: The North Lot is the most convenient for wedding guests—it’s just a short walk to the venue area You’ll have park admission included, so feel free to arrive early and enjoy a stroll through the zoo if you’d like more time to explore before the ceremony!
Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
The ceremony will take place outdoors, just outside the beautiful Botanical Gardens at the Calgary Zoo. Following the ceremony, we’ll move indoors to celebrate at the Safari Lodge, a gorgeous venue right on zoo grounds. Rain or shine, it’s going to be a wild and wonderful day!
What kind of shoes should/shouldn't I wear?
You can wear whatever shoes you feel great in for the ceremony and reception—there’s no strict dress code for footwear. That said, the Calgary Zoo is quite large, spanning over 125 acres with 6 unique zones and hundreds of animals to explore. If you’re planning to arrive early or stay after to wander the park, we recommend bringing a comfy pair of walking shoes so you can explore without sore feet. Heels are totally fine for the ceremony, but maybe pack some flats or sneakers if you plan to get your steps in!
