Our Story
Like many modern love stories, ours started with a swipe. In 2017, Bumble did what friends, fate, and Friday nights had apparently failed to do — it introduced Brandy and David. A first date at Smash Palace confirmed what the app had already suspected: these two were going to be a problem for each other (the good kind). What followed was eight years of building something real, including two years when David decided that South Georgia was a reasonable place to be. (Spoiler: it is not close. We checked.) To make things extra interesting, this also happened to coincide with a global pandemic, which meant the world was locked down and normal was thoroughly off the table. Distance plus COVID has a way of either ending things or cementing them. For Brandy and David, it did the latter. On their eight-year anniversary, David surprised Brandy with a helicopter tour over Mt Fyffe. For two people who feel most at home in the mountains, touching down at the summit felt just right. Up there, with the Kaikōura ranges stretching out in every direction, he finally asked the question that had been eight years in the making. She said yes. Obviously.
Accommodation Information
Akaroa is a charming little township with hotels, Airbnbs and campsites throughout. There should be ample accommodation this time of the year but we encourage you to book early!
Frequently Asked Questions
We've pulled together a handy Q&A to help you get the info you need in no time—so you can focus on the fun stuff!
Are children invited to the wedding?
We love your little ones, but we've chosen to keep our celebration mostly grown-ups only. That said, if you're travelling from afar and bringing the kids along for the journey, they are more than welcome at the wedding. If you're unsure whether this applies to you, don't hesitate to reach out!
When do we need to RSVP by?
Please submit your RSVP before 10th January 2027, although the sooner the better so we can finalise plans.
Are the wedding ceremony and the reception at the same venue?
Yes, both the ceremony and reception will be held at the same venue. Akaroa township is about a 20 minute walk to the venue and a shuttle will be provided at the end of the night to take you back to nearby accommodation.
What is there to do nearby?
Akaroa is the kind of place that makes it very easy to extend your stay. Wander the charming shops and cafes, or settle in at a local vineyard with a glass in hand. For the more adventurous, there are hikes, kayaking, penguin tours, and the rather special experience of swimming with dolphins. There's genuinely something for everyone, so we'd encourage you to make a weekend of it!
