Our Love Story
Carolyn and Alex met a long time ago in a band far away from here (unless you live in the Waterloo Region then it's pretty close). There are lots of fun stories from those days! This is the same community concert band in which Carolyn's folks Ron and Cathy met. (aww cute!) They moved to Vancouver in 2015 shortly after living together in Kitchener. Love grew in Vancouver over 9 years and finally they decided to get the government involved in the story. T'be fair, they have been filing their taxes together for years already so really it's just an excuse to get you, lovely person reading this, to come and hang out at a brewery in slightly nicer clothes than you might normally wear at a brewery! You're all part of the story and they consider themselves lucky and thankful for that. Moving back to Ontario for work and to be closer to family happened in 2024. With a new place to live and the rest of our lives to look forward to together, Carolyn and Alex are looking forward to celebrating with friends and family in Alex's home town of Huntsville, Ontario this summer!
Wedding Party
Meet the lovely folks who will be by the side of the bride and groom on the big day.
Drew
Drew and Alex have been best friends before they even started kindergarten. Learning to swim on Waseosa, absolutely terrorizing teachers from K-12, boating, golfing, biking through the woods or our ongoing Tuesday night games nights this friendship is the stuff of legend. Drew has the imagination and wit second to none and with Alex as a catalyst these two are together they're actually unstoppable. If you're looking for us just follow your ears!
Stacie
Stacie and Carolyn were roommates at UBC for one fateful summer, which they both definitely have perfect memories of as there was definitely no drinking involved. Since then, they've had many a shenanigan including absolutely dominating Cam and Alex at all board games, proudly becoming multi-time Darby's Hall of Foamers, and crushing their Goodreads goals.
Graham
Graham is a terrible influence on Alex... or maybe it's the other way around? A shared love of music brought these two together but it turned out that they have a shared love of a lot the same stuff. Suffice to say no mountain, beach, music or sports venue, winery or brewery is safe from these two. Catch us in our camping chairs at the sunset!
Cayley
Cayley and Carolyn have been tearing up the late night snack scene for years. Chips and fries everywhere stand no chance against them! Cayley has never let a good time pass her by - and that enthusiasm is infectious! It's brought Carolyn out of her nice, safe comfort zone many a time. If you've ever seen Carolyn doing anything sporty (yes that includes beer pong), there's a good chance you'll find Cayley nearby!
Andrew
Andrew and Alex met at university. Even the professors didn't get in their way when they were on a roll. Andrew might be the sweetest guy you'll meet but he's more likely to be ruthlessly humbling Alex at every turn. Find us on the back deck catching up!
Venetia
If you're looking for advice on the best wine, holiday spot, outfit choice, or next move in your career, Venetia's your girl! She's got a cute as pie daughter and hosts a mean wine tasting dinner party, with a heart of gold and the aesthetic to match it. But watch out - she's also got a lethal margarita mix and she knows how to use it!
Ian
Ian can play the bassoon as well as anyone in the country and he can fly an airplane. The man contains multitudes! One could say that Ian is a little introverted but one day he decided to pick an oblivious Alex as his extrovert friend when they met at the KW Symphony back in the day. No one knows why he would be so foolish but Alex, for one, is very thankful. If you need us we'll be making plans over coffee or cocktails!
Michelle
Michelle and Carolyn are avid farmers, mountain climbers, time travellers, and back country survivalists. In their games nights, of course. They're likely to be found having deep conversations or having a chill girls' weekend, but once in a while they like to crush the competition in one of Stacie's epic cabin weekends (okay, maybe Michelle does the actual crushing, but Carolyn is a supportve teammate!).
Cam
Cam has a way of being the life of the party but making everyone else feel like they're the life of the party. Cam joined the Vancouver friend group one day and we all thought this guy was too good to be true. Turns out he's just actually the best dude. Bonus points for marrying into the group this summer by the way! We're either winning at (or losing super hard) at some board games or being a little much for Carolyn and Stacie at the moment. Best just leave us to it...
Schedule
Accommodation Information
There are lots of options in Huntsville and the surrounding area but they do book up fast! Huntsville is the northern end of Muskoka which is world renowned for its beauty and cottage country. Watch out for lakes, they're everywhere up here! There are Resorts, Hotels, Motels, AirBnBs, VRBOs and check out CottagesInCanada.com too. We found some gems there recently. (not a sponsor). Oooh do you think we could get a sponsor?
Getting to Huntsville and Getting Around Town
Huntsville is about 2 hours north of the Toronto Airport. You're looking for YYZ if you're flying. Getting to Huntsville is easiest if you have a car. Public Transportation will add many hours to the trip but is technically possible. There are direct transportation options that don't involve a rental car but we're not experts on that. We're happy to help you find people to carpool with if you reach out. Getting around town is easy (again, with a car). There is no public transportation system in town other than, I think, one little bus that makes stops when it wants. It's not something we'd recommend counting on. There are two taxi services so if you have been drinking (and we recommend this activity) then please consider using a cab service like Al's Taxi (seriously... not related) or Huntsville Taxi. Details below: Al's Taxi (705) 789-2374 Huntsville Taxi (226) 964-2772 Currently untested by these two lovebirds - it looks like there's an Uber-like app called Y-Drive that will work in Huntsville!
Frequently Asked Questions
We've pulled together a handy Q&A to help you get the info you need in no time—so you can focus on the fun stuff! If you have any other questions send us an email or get ahold of us via text. Wedding email address is CarolynAlex.Wedding26@gmail.com.
Are children invited to the wedding?
Sure! I mean it is a brewery so kind of up to you. The brewery is ok with it. We know that finding people to watch your kids may be difficult and we don't want you to have to worry about that. We do also want you (and all our guests) to be able to let loose a little and have a good time so if you are cool to have your kids around for that then by all means!
When do we need to RSVP by?
January 31, 2026. Not a hard rule but we would really appreciate if you could let us know by, say the end of January. We have seating chart to build, portions to order, that kind of thing. It would be sweet to know by then if you'll be there. If you need more time just drop us a line.
Are the wedding ceremony and the reception at the same venue?
So we're doing a private ceremony with immediate family only but it's going to be pretty much just about signing a document, in and out and a couple pictures. Once we've got that paperwork out of the way we're going to be spending our entire attention on Canvas Brewing and the big party! Come hungry and thirsty and ready to have a good time!! We'd also love to see you at brunch the next day. Updates about where brunch will be will be sent out later.
Where do I stay in Huntsville?
There's a bit about that just above this section about that but please feel free to reach out to Alex to help with advice on your specific situation. He knows the area really well and will be able to let you know pros and cons about any of the options you're considering.
Is there a Registry or Honeymoon Fund?
Well here's the thing. We know a lot of you are going to be coming in from out of town and you're already spending a lot of your money and time just to celebrate with us. That is really what we want is to see you and celebrate. (Presence not Presents you know?) We're in our early (mid-late) thirties and we have most of the stuff already that we need so that typical registry idea doesn't really apply to us. If you feel weird arriving empty handed (and please don't) an e-transfer to our wedding email (carolynalex.wedding26@gmail.com) lands in a bank account we've set up just for savings for a honeymoon and things like upgrades in the kitchen and eventually a downpayment on a house of our own with room to grow our family. A card with a memory or something nice written inside would really make our day.
What should I wear?
It's sometimes pretty hot in August but it can also be cooler in the evening. Keep an eye on the weather report for details! Lots of swimming to be done so for sure you're going to want a bathing suit.
No I mean what should I wear to the WEDDING?
Semi-Formal is what we've listed as the dress code. It would be nice to elevate from what you normally wear to a brewery but no need to go over the top. Carolyn is more than happy to approve your outfit if you're anxious.
Share your photos with us
If you have photos over the years that you think we might like that you've taken with (or of) us we might print a few of those off for decoration at Canvas so please send them well in advance. Just like the best ones though. Not a thousand of them. This will remain available after the wedding too so if you get any on the night that are just great send them through. That said, you don't need your phone out all the time but a little won't hurt right? We have hired a photographer so please stay out of her way for the important stuff but if you do happen to have taken a really nice photo at the wedding or anytime during the week that makes sense to share with us we'd love to see it! Thanks!
Recommendations for what to do in Muskoka (Huntsville)
Webers! On the way up north! Located halfway between YYZ and Huntsville on Highway 11 (north of Barrie, south of Orillia). This place is an institution. Probably going to want to hit it on the way up and back. If you're taking a bus tell them to stop there. Don't let the long lineup scare you the kids that work there are so goddamn fast you'll have the perfect burger, fries and chocolate shake in no time. Debit or Cash only! So good and an absolute staple for the Clarks growing up. Big orange bridge that goes across the highway. Can't miss it. Sit in a train car with AC if it's hot out otherwise there's a nice park. You can get ice cream or Starbucks there too but the real treat is the charcoal burgers. Alex recommends a double patty with cheese "everything but tomato" Carolyn will suggest ketchup only is enough. Get a little extra seasoning on your fries and enjoy the loud kitchen as you watch them make your food! Golf There are lots of good places to golf in Huntsville and the surrounding area. Alex's places growing up were Huntsville Downs, Mark O'Meara (Clublink) because he worked there raking bunkers (with his Best Man Drew) and North Granite Ridge south of town. Deerhurst Highlands is a nice one too! Let us know if you want to get a round in. Alex will probably want to join! Swimming If you come to Muskoka in the summer you have to get to the water. Lots of great swimming holes in town. If you're downtown you can jump off the dock or rent a boat or canoe from Algonquin Outfitters. If you want to skip class at the end of the highschool year, Camp Kitchen is a great place to go just don't get run over by the Portage Flyer that Choo choo's around that area. [Aside: Unless you're super into trains don't bother with the Portage Flyer. Super overrated (unless we get them as a sponsor).] There's also some nice little beaches around too. Avery Beach for walking around. Hutcheson Beach for sandy swimming. Nutty Chocolatier This is a candy store and it's the best one in town! There was one in Baltimore that Carolyn likes more but that's too far away. Nutty is cute, classic small-town, touristy (but in a good way) and supportive of the community. I think they sponsored Alex's soccer teams before 'timbits' took over all of sports... There will likely be some candy from here at the wedding but if you want to get the good stuff in advance get in there. It's on Main Street and is a must stop while in town. It's between some great places to eat anyway. Might as well stop in! Pub on the Docks I think it's technically called "on the docks pub" but that's not how the locals say it. P-on-the-D is a classic hang for teachers at 4pm on a school night, rowdy kids at night who are coming in from camp on their single day off that week and also a more classy clientele during daylight hours. There have been some legendary nights at the Pub! It's got two or three patios (keeps growing!), a great cheddar and ale soup as a side and the usual pub food. Some great memories here. You can go there and eat some of the candy you just bought at Nutty Chocolatier while you wait for your cider or Stella. If you're looking for more craft beer options check out Lake of Bays Brewing across the street or Canvas Brewing across the bridge (go to Canvas if you want to plan what you're going to sip on at the wedding!!) Main Street. Already mentioned a few faves (Nutty and the Pub) but there are a bunch of other cool restaurants. It's a nice walk if you park somewhere up near Centre Street and walk down the hill towards the swing bridge. Lots of touristy shops, clothing, dining, a games store, banks, probably a weed store and a great park on the water. Can't miss it. Might be some music being played. If a busker impresses you enough to stop you owe them a buck. It's a very fun and safe place to hang out in the evenings in the summer too. Memory lane for Alex. Algonquin Park Day trip out of town or 10-day canoe trip. Algonquin park is a spectacular place to spend time. It's natural beauty is what you'll find on all the post cards in town and is the place that inspired Tom Thomson and the Group of Seven who came later. You'll see lots of Tom Thomson stuff around town. If you stay an extra month or two the leaves changing colours and the vistas for viewing them are probably the best in the world. For a closer alternative, check out Arrowhead park. Just north of town a few minutes it's a great place to hang out for the day. Bring lunch, run some trails, go for a dip, enjoy nature!
We would like to thank Ron and Cathy as well as Tom and Lexi for your love and support.
Just outtakes and goofs from here on out for your amusement
This is what people sent when I first asked for head shots. They should have known I'd post them somewhere...
Fun game. Match the caption to the photo: I think that's why Cam wore a eye patch for a while... If you can't tell that mushroom is Drew... Sure Graham, That's a good one to use on the wedding website... Thanks Stacie, got anything more recent or... That's Alex and John Lapp learning at a young age to harmonize I think... Thanks Capitan Mike Sales for the Photobomb... Mike, where was that smile when we got engaged? hahaha Ohh yea remember that time we were the Scooby gang and Carolyn was the bad guy? Caught us a live one ladies! Cam was not in this hall of foam celebration photo because he had not EARNED it. RIP Darby's This is a hockey player. See if you can spot Carolyn and Martha Sales on TV That time when Graham pushed Alex off a boat. Rude. I miss sending Fred messages from the beach…🖕 My youngest Nephew gets it...
